Creating The Buzz Insurance Journal- Chapter 1

A clean sheet of paper, a supportive IAG Board and CEO and a leap of faith!

May 2008 seems like a lifetime ago. Anyone who has been involved in creating a new company and quickly getting to market will appreciate this statement. I look back over the last 17 months and realise how much learning, opportunity and fun (and hard work!) has been packed into this time.

Many people are asking us to share our insights from this journey. This blog journal will be an attempt to share this with those of you who are interested. I will talk with you about:
  • why as a CEO I would accept a move from running a large insurance division with 2000 staff and 5 complex businesses to initiating a new division – in a company that has not initiated a start up before
  • how we secured learnings from a broad range of industries and countries
  • the customer engagement that allowed us to co create and identify the key areas of value for the target groups
  • how we gained ongoing internal commitment , support and passion for what we were doing
  • the creation of the brand – where did it come from and why we have gone with “The Buzz
  • selection and engagement of our business partners – what has driven successful partnering
  • how we recruited our people and developed our culture
  • a behind the scenes look at the night before launch
Hopefully it will generate people sharing their experiences in similar situations and generate broader learnings and conversation .

Log in next for the first discussion – why leave a large CEO role to take on a career risk of a start up.
