I believe insurance would be a lot easier, particularly Home & Contents Insurance, if you could create a secure online inventory of all your major possessions which are worth insuring. This would help people keep track of exactly what they own, calculate how much cover they need and update the inventory whenever new items are purchased. With modern data storage and great new mobile phones, it would also be possible to keep a photographic record of the item and capture it's serial number. In case these are required as proof in the case of a claim.
